6.15.2010 ~ SAPPHIRES BEATEN BY RUBIES IN THE PLAYOFFS!

For the 2nd year in a row the last place team knocked the 1st place team out of the playoffs in the 1st round. This year it was the Rubies who defeated the Sapphires 7-5 behind a strong pitching performance by Rubies ace Francesca Lamaruggine. The Sapphires jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when Joann bunted for a base hit and was sacrificed by Chrissi to 2nd, Vikki then singled making it 1st and 3rd Courtney then singled home Joann and Karina hit a 2run double making it 3-0. The Sapphires were winning 3-0 until the top of the 4th when the Rubies scored 3 runs to tie it. The Rubies took the lead 5-3 in the top of the 5th and extended the lead to 7-3 going into the bottom of the 7th. Rubies pitcher Francesca retired 9 in a row and13 out of 14 from the 2nd inning to the 6th. In the bottom of the 7th the Sapphires bats came alive when Courtney led off with a single, Krista then blasted a double scoring Courtney, Karina then got a RBI ground out and Marina walked but that’s when Francesca shut the door striking out the last 2 Sapphires hitters ending their season. Final Rubies 7 Sapphires 5. Hitting stars for the Rubies were Danielle who went 4-4 and Jahna who got a clutch 2 out 2 run single .The Sapphires who were never out of 1st place the whole year ended the season 14-6-1 and won the regular season title.

The Rubies will play Onyx who defeated the Diamonds 6-1 behind a Shannon Martinez gem for the Championship in a 2 out of 3 final beginning next week. Good luck to the remaining teams.

6.6.2010 ~ Sapphires Win Teen Division Championship

Even though the Sapphires lost to the Rubies 12-2 in the final game of the season the Sapphires won the Division by 3 games. Hitting stars were Joann who went 1-1 with 2 walks 4sb’s and a double with a run scored and a RBI. Courtney who went 1-3 with a double and Alyssa who went 1-1 with a sb and a run scored.

The Sapphires final record was 14-6-1 and will meet the Rubies in the 1st round of the playoffs next week.

Team leaders in the Hitting Categories were Batting Average Vikki .667 Runs scored Joann 26, RBI’s Vikki 35 On Base Pct. Vikki .691 Walks Joann 14 SB’s Krista & Chrissi tied with 17 ,Triples Vikki 4 and Vikki edged Courtney in Doubles 11-10

6.5.2010 ~ Sapphires split double dip with Onyx.

Onyx 9 Sapphires 6 in the 1st game and Sapphires 17 Onyx 5 in the 2nd game.In the 1st game hitting stars were Chrissi who went 4-4 with 2 runs scored and a double and a RBI, Vikki who went 3-4 with 2 doubles 3RBI’s and a run scored and Joann who went 2-4 with 2 runs and a RBI. The game was highlighted by a triple play, the Rubies had bases loaded and 0 outs and Vikki caught a line drive at short ran to 3rd and stepped on the base for the double play and then turned and threw a bullet to 1st for the triple play.

The Sapphires are now 13-5-1.

In the 2nd game the Sapphires scored 5 runs in the 1st 4 runs in the 2nd 3rd and 4th innings to beat Onyx 17-5 behind Krista’s pitching. Hitting stars were Joann 2-3 sb triple and 2 runs scored, Chrissi went 2-4 with 2 runs, Vikki went 2-4 with a double 3 RBI’s and 2 runs, Krista who went 3-3 with 3RBI’s 4 runs and 4 sb’s. Courtney went 2-3 with a double and RBI and 3 runs and Allesandra who got the game ball by going 2-2 with 2 RBI’s and 5 sb’s.

The Sapphires are now 14-5-1.

5.29.2010 ~ Sapphires beat Onyx to take a 3½ game lead

The Sapphires led by the hitting and pitching of Krista beat the Onyx 8-6. In the top of the 1st Chrissi singled and stole 2nd and with 2 out scored when Krista singled her in and then Courtney hit a double to make it 2-0. Onyx made it 2-1 after 2.In the top of the 3rd the Sapphires struck for 4 runs when Tiffany led off drawing a walk, Joann then laid down a perfect bunt single, Chrissi the had a RBI single followed by a RBI single by Vikki, Courtney then singled in another run and Karina drove in 2 runs with a single. The Sapphires now led 6-1 until Onyx made it 6-4 after 4. The Sapphires made it 8-4 in the top of the 5th when Krista singled and stole 2nd,Courtney then got her 3rd hit of the game and stole 2nd that is when Marina got a clutch 2 run single to center. Onyx fought back in the bottom of the 5th to make it 8-6. Krista then shut down Onyx striking out 10 hitters for the 8-6 win. The game ball went to Krista.

Sapphires are now 13-4-1 and lead the division by 3 1/2 games.

5.23.2010 ~ Sapphires tie and then defeat the Rubies in a Doubleheader

In the 1st game The Sapphires jumped out to a 5-0 lead when Joann singled stole 2nd and Vikki singled then Krista doubled home 2 runs and Courtney got a RBI single Karina singled and Ronnie drove in a run with a RBI single, the 5th run was scored on Brianna’s RBI groundout. The Rubies came back with 5 in the 2nd and took a 6-5 lead in the 3rd .The Sapphires tied it up when Courtney singled stole 2nd and scored when Ronnie grounded out. The Sapphires took an 8-6 lead when Cindy singled Chrissi singled and Vikki hit a 2 run triple. The Rubies took a 10-8 lead in the top of the 5th. In the bottom of the 6th Cindy singled and scored on Chrissi’s RBI single. Trailing 10-9 going into the bottom of the 7th Courtney led of with a double and scored when Ronnie drove her in with a RBI single. Final score Sapphires 10 Rubies 10.

The Sapphires are now 11-4-1.

In the 2nd game the Sapphires jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Joann walked stole 2nd and scored on Vikki’s RBI single, Krista then doubled and scored on Courtney’s ground out. then Karina had a RBI single The Rubies made in 3-1 and then tied it in the bottom of the 2nd 3-3.The Sapphires took a 4-3 lead when Krista singled stole 2nd and scored on Karina’s groundout. The Sapphires broke the game open scoring 6 runs in the top of the 4th when Ronnie singled, and Alyssa and Joann walked, Chrissi had a RBI single then Vikki walked in a run, Krista singled in another run, Courtney drove in a run with a ground out Karina walked and Marina drove in 2 runs with a single .In the top of the 5th the Sapphires scored 4 more runs when Alyssa walked stole 2nd and scored when Cindy singled her in, Joann singled and Vikki hit her second 2 run triple of the day, the Rubies then conceded the game 14-3. Game ball went to Vikki.

Sapphires are now 12-4-1 and have a 2 ½ game lead with 7 to go.

5.22.2010 ~ Sapphires rally to beat Onyx 8-6

In the battle for 1st place the Sapphires defeated Onyx 8-6 to take a 2 game lead with 9 games remaining in the season. The Sapphires trailed 6-0 going into the bottom of the 4th as Onyx pitcher Shannon who had shut out the Sapphires last week had a no hit game going. But in the bottom of the 4th Chrissi led off with a solid single to left, Vikki followed with a single then Courtney had a RBI single as Chrissi scored, Karina then singled home Vikki to make it 6-2 Krista then doubled home Vikki and it was 6-3 then with 2 out Cindy singled home 2 more to make it 6-5 Allesandra then singled in the final run of the inning and after 4 it was now 6-6. Sapphire pitcher Joann after a shaky start regained her form and shut out the Onyx over the last 3 innings, In the bottom of the 5th with 1 out Vikki doubled and Courtney drove in the winning run with a RBI single. The Sapphires added 1 more run in the bottom of the 6th when Krista singled and stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on the over throw. Final score Sapphires 8 Onyx 6. Game ball went to Allesandra who went 2-2 and had the game tying RBI single.

The Sapphires are now 11-4.

5.16.2010 ~ Sapphires split Double-Dip

On Sunday May 16th the Sapphires bounced back led by pitcher Krista and defeated the Diamonds 8-6. The Diamonds jumped out in front 2-0 in the 1st inning, and made it 3-0 after 3. In the 4th the Sapphires scored one run when Chrissi singled, Vikki walked Courtney singled and Chrissi scored on a Krista ground out.. In the top of the 5th the Sapphires scored 3 runs when Cindy singled Chrissi walked and Vikki doubled them both in and then Courtney doubled in Vikki. The Diamonds came right back and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 6-4 lead. In the top of the 6th the Sapphires scored 4 runs when Alyssa walked Cindy singled Joann tripled in 2 runs Chrissi singled in Joann then Vikki singled in Chrissi giving the Sapphires an 8-6 lead. Krista then shut down the Diamonds over the last 2 innings for the 8-6 win. Game Ball went to Chrissi.

The Sapphires are now 10-3

In the 2nd game the Diamonds defeated the Sapphires 18-5 the Diamonds scored 8 runs in the top of the 1st highlighted by Diamonds Grand Slam Home Run. The made it 16-0 after 2 innings. The sapphires scored 1 run when Krista doubled and scored on Ronnie’s RBI ground out. Trailing 18-1 the Sapphires cored 4 runs when Ronnie walked Tiffany singled then Briana had a RBI single and Cindy a RBI ground out Joann singled Alyssa walked and Courtney drove in 2 runs with a single. Final score Diamonds 18 Sapphires 5.

The Sapphires are now 10-4

5.15.2010 ~ Sapphires lose 11-0 to Onyx

On Saturday May 15th the Sapphires lost to Onyx 11-0. Onyx ace Shannon pitched a 2 hit shut out striking out 14 Sapphires in 5 innings. Karina and Courtney got the only 2 hits of the game for the Sapphires.

The Sapphires are now 9-3

5.8.2010 ~ Sapphires defeat Rubies 13-0

The Sapphires led by pitcher Joann Guerra’s 1 hit shutout beat the Rubies 13-0. In the bottom of the 1st, Chrissi reached on an error stole 2nd and scored on a clutch 2 out single by Cindy. In the 2nd the Sapphires made it 4-0 when Ronnie singled stole 2nd and 3rd and scored when Joann singled her home then Chrissi doubled in Joann and Chanaya . In the 3rd the Sapphires scored 8 runs when Karina walked Tiffany singled Ronnie singled in Karina, Alyssa then singled and Joann doubled in 2 more runs then Chrissi singled in 2 more, Vikki got a RBI ground out Cindy singled and Karina knocked in 2 more runs with a single. The score after 3 was 12-0. In the bottom of the 4th Ronnie singled for her 3rd hit of the game and scored on a force out. Sapphires 13-0 Joann got out of bases loaded no out jam in the 5th to complete her shutout. Stars of the Game were Ronnie and Cindy and the game ball went to Joann.

The Sapphires are now 9-2.

5.2.2010 ~ Sapphires split doubleheader

On Sunday May 2 the Sapphires split a double header with the Diamonds losing 13-12 and winning the 2nd game 6-3. In the 1st game the Diamonds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st but the Sapphires came right back and tied it 4-4 when Joann doubled and Chrissi singled her home Vikki the doubled home her sister and after Krista grounded out Courtney singled home Vikki then Marina singled home Courtney. The Diamonds struck for 5 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 9-4 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd the Sapphires cut the lead to 9-6 when Chrissi singled stole 2nd and Vikki singled her home then Krista singled home Vikki. The Diamonds made it 10-6 in the top of the 4th. In the bottom of the 5th the Sapphires once again cut the lead to 10-8 when Joann walked Chrissi walked Vikki singled home Joann and Courtney singled home Vikki. In the top of the 6th the Diamonds made it 11-8. In the bottom of the inning the Sapphires made it 11-10 when Allesandra walked Joann singled Chrissi singled Vikki singled and Courtney singled. The Diamonds made it 13-10 in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the inning Courtney walked Karina walked and Marina walked ,Cindy got a RBI ground out Alessandra walked in a run and then with 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs “The Mighty Casey” struck out to end the game.

The Sapphires are now 7-2

After the BBQ held outside the left field fence the Sapphires led by pitcher Krista rebounded to win 6-3 .The Sapphires jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Chrissi walked and with 2out Courtney singled home Chrissi. The Sapphires made it 2-0 in the top of the 2nd when Karina walked stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on an Allesandra ground out. The Sapphires made it 3-0 when with 2 out and nobody on Krista singled stole 2nd and 3rd and scored when Karina singled her home. The Diamonds rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to tie it 3-3 but that is when Krista shut them down for the rest of the game. In the top of the 5th the Sapphires scored 2 runs when Vikki walked stole 2nd and 3rd Courtney walked making it 1st and 3rd after she stole 2nd Krista singled and Courtney scored on a Karina ground out. The Sapphires made it 6-3 in the top of the 6th when Ronnie singled stole 2nd and scored on a Chrissi RBI single. Krista mowed them down in the bottom of the 7th for the 6-3 win. Game ball went to Krista.

The Sapphires are now 8-2.

5.1.2010 ~ Sapphires Defeat Rubies 8-5

On Saturday May 1 the Sapphires pitchers Chrissi and Krista combined to defeat The Rubies 8-5. The Sapphires jumped out in front in the top of the 1st when Joann walked Marina singled Chrissi had a RBI groundout and so did Krista. The Rubies made it 2-1 in the bottom of the inning and they tied it up with a run in the bottom of the 3rd. In the top of the 4th the Sapphires rallied for 3 runs when Courtney walked Cindy singled Tiffany walked Alyssa walked in a run and then with 2 out Joann singled in a run and so did Marina. The Rubies came right back and tied it up on a clutch 2 out 2run single by Jahnna. In the top of the 5th Krista tripled and scored on a RBI single by Cindy giving the Sapphires a 6-5 lead. In the top of the 7th the Sapphires made it 8-5 when with 2outs and nobody on Marina singled Chrissi singled Krista singled in a run and Courtney followed with a RBI single. Krista shut out the Rubies over the final 3 innings for the win. Game ball went to Marina who went 4-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI

The Sapphires are now 7-1

4.24.2010 ~ Sapphires Defeat Rubies 9-3

On Saturday, the Sapphires led by pitcher Joann Guerra’s complete game defeated the Rubies and their ace pitcher Francesca Lamaruggine 9-3. The Sapphires jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Joann walked stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on Vikki’s RBI single. In the top of the 3rd the Rubies scored 3 runs to take a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd the Sapphires came right back and evened the game at 3-3 when Joann walked stole 2nd and scored on Vikki’s RBI double, then Courtney doubled her home. In the bottom of the 4th the Sapphires scored 4 runs when Brianna walked, Marina walked and Joann walked loading the bases then Chrissi hit a clutch 2 out 2rbi single, then Vikki batting lefty singled in 2 more runs giving the Sapphires a 7-3 lead. In the bottom of the 6th the Sapphires scored 2 more runs when with 2 out and nobody on Chrissi singled Vikki tripled in her 5th rbi of the game Courtney then singled home Vikki making it 9-3 Sapphire pitcher Joann shut out the Rubies over the last 4 innings to pitch her 3rd complete game of the year. Hitting stars were Vikki who went 4-4 with 5 RBI’s a double and triple and 3 sb’s and Courtney who went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s. Game ball went to Tiffany who had her 1st hit in the senior division and went 1-2 with a walk and 4 sb’s and played a flawless game at third base.

The Sapphires are now 6-1

Sunday’s double-header against the Onyx was rained out.

4.18.2010 ~ Forfiet win on Saturday, Sunday split with the Diamonds winning 12-6 and losing 12-8

On Saturday the Sapphires won on a forfeit over the Rubies. The Sapphires are now 4-0

On Sunday in the first game, Diamond pitcher Megan Kelly was dominating the Sapphire hitters and the Sapphires were losing 3-0 entering the top of the 4th that is when the Sapphires erupted for 12 runs. Vikki led off with a double, Courtney the followed with a single then Marina singled in the 1st run, Karina, Tiffany and Allesandra then walked, Briana walked and then Joann hit a 2r double, Chrissi singled in a run Vikki got a rbi groundout, Courtney and Marina then both got their 2nd hits of the inning, Karina walked and Krista hit a 2r double,the score was now 12-3. The Diamonds scratched out 3 more runs and the final was 12-6. Joann Chrissi and Krista combined for the win. Game ball went to Ronnie who entered the game in the 4th and went 1-1 with 2walks 1rbi 1run scored and had the defensive play of the game when she made a great catch with the bases loaded on a screaming line drive. The Sapphires are now 5-0.

In the 2nd game the Sapphires lost 12-8 despite scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to make the game close. Hitting stars were Joann 2-4 2 runs, Marina 2-2 Krista 2-4 double and 2 RBI’s and Courtney 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. Briana Martinez pitched well for the Diamonds and got the win. The Sapphires are now 5-1.

4.11.2010 ~ Sapphires sweep doubleheader against Onyx

On Sunday the Sapphires swept Onyx 6-4 and 12-4 In the opening game the Sapphires were led by pitcher Krista Lancione who pitched a 7 inning complete game. Onyx scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st but the Sapphires came right back and tied it 2-2 on singles by Karina and Vikki. In the 2nd they took the lead when Tiff walked stole 2nd and scored on a single by Alyssa. The Sapphires made it 4-2 in the 3rd when Vikki doubled stole 3rd and scored on a Courtneys double. Onyx made it 4-3 in the 4th. In the bottom of the 5th Chrissi andKarina singled and Joann hit a 2r double to make it 6-3 Onyx scored 1 more run in the 6th but Krista shut them down the rest of the way for the 6-4 win. Game ball went to Krista.

In the 2nd game the Sapphires were led by pitcher Chrissi Quinones .The Sapphires were trailing 4-1 in the top of the 4th when they erupted for 8 runs . Courtney started it off with a double ,Cindy the blasted a double scoring Courtney,Tiff walked Briana singled,Chanaya walked and Joann hit a 2r double Chrissi singled home 2 more runs. Krista knocked in another run with a groundout Karina doubled and Courtney then followed with her 2nd double of the inning. In the 5th the Sapphires scored 3 more runs as Ronnie walked Chanaya walked Alyssa singled Joann walked Chrissi walked and Krista then drove home the 12th run with a single. In the bottom of the 5th Krista came in to close out the game with bases loaded and 1 out and immediately struck out the last 2 Onyx hitters. Final 12-4 Game ball went to Chrissi. The Sapphires are now 3-0!

4.10.2010 ~ Sapphires 10 - Rubies 0

On Saturday the Sapphires led by pitcher Joann Guerra’s 2 hit shutout opened the season with a 10-0 win over the Rubies. The game was scoreless in the bottom of the 3rd when the Sapphires erupted for 6 runs . Samantha started it off with a double, Joann singled and Chrissi walked then Vikki blasted a bases clearing triple to make it 3-0. Courtney then singled home Vikki ,Karina singled then Marina making her senior debut singled home 2 more runs. In the 5th Joann walked ,Chrissi singled and Vikki doubled driving in her 5th rbi of the day . Karina drove home Vikki with a single and Marina tripled to end the game 10-0 . The game ball went to Joann for a 2 hit 11k shutout . Honorable mention went to Karina who went 3-3 Marina who had a double and triple and Vikki who had a double and triple and 5 big rbi’s. The Sapphires welcome Marina, Tiffany, Cindy, Chanaya, Briana and Allysa to the Senior Division.
