The Rubies swept the Crystals 2 straight to win the Teen Girls Championship with a dramatic come from behind 5-4 victory. The Rubies trailing 4-0 in the 6th inning erupted for 5 runs against Crystal ace S. Martinez to stage a comeback for the ages. The game was scoreless till the bottom of the 2nd when S. Martinez singled and was knocked in by an A. Allen rbi single. The Crystals made it 3-0 when they scored 2 runs in the 3rd on singles by S. Nugent, S. Martinez and A. Allen. They widened the gap to 4-0 in the 4th on a rbi by A. Casablanca. Time was running out on the Rubies when in the top of the 6th J. Romano led off with an infield single then A. Martinez singled and so did C. Quinones then V. Quinones lined 2 run double down the left field line which was her 2nd double of the game. K. Lancione then knocked in the game winning run with a single to center. Now it was up to Rubies star pitcher F. Lamaruggine to hold the tough Crystals for 6 more outs. Lamaruggine came through in the clutch one again striking out 3 of the last 6 Crystal batters. The game ended with a runner on 1st when S. Nugent lined out to Rubies right fielder S. Weyhrauch who made a game saving catch. S. Martinez struck out 13 Rubies and only allowed 1 walk. She deserved a better fate because she was terrific once again on the mound. F. Lamaruggine struck out 12 Crystal batters for the win and the Championship. Crystal stars were S. Martinez, S. Nugent, A. Irizarry and A. Allen. Rubies stars were A. Martinez, C. Quinines, V. Quinones, K. Lancione, F. Lamaruggine, J. Romano and S. Weyhrauch. Congratulations to the underdog Crystals who outplayed and knocked off the 1st place Diamonds in the 1st round and gave the Rubies all they could handle in the Championship series. Championship game ball goes to V. Quinones.
Finally the Rubies want to thank Manager Steve Neal for bringing us home the 2009 Teen Girls Championship.
The Rubies would also like to pay special thanks to President Vinnie Prestipino and the board for always making sure the children come first. It is an honor becoming the Champions of the Pelham Bay Belles Teen Division.

The Rubies behind the arm of K. Lancione beat the Crystals 7-3. Lancione pitched a complete game and had 10k's and gave up only 4 hits.
The Crystals jumped in front 1-0 in the top of the 1st when M. Kelly singled and scored. In the bottom of the 1st the Rubies took a 2-1 lead on hits by C. Quinones, K. Lancione and J. Parks. The Crystals tied it up when K. Reilly scored. In the bottom of the 2nd the Rubies scored 3 runs to take a 5-2 lead. F. Lamaruggine and V. Neal both worked out walks against the tough Crystals pitcher J. Cabassa. Then V. Nazzarri, A. Martinez and C. Quinones got clutch 2 out hits. The Rubies made it 6-2 in the bottom of the 4th when J. Romano walked and scored. The Rubies made it 7-2 in the 5th when K. Lancione walked and scored on a RBI by J. Romano. Rubies star pitcher K. Lancione pitched 4 scoreless innings and shut down the Crystal attack until the top of the 7th when K. Reilly singled and scored a run. Final Score in Game#1 Rubies 7 Crystals 3.
Crystal stars were pitcher J. Cabassa terrific fielding by SS F. Primiani and hitting star K. Reilly with 2 hits.
Rubies stars were pitcher K.Lancione SS V.Quinones who turned 3 double plays. Hitting stars C. Quinones 3-4 and J. Romano who had 2 walks 1 run and 1 rbi. The Rubies are now 1 win away from the Championship but they have to face Crystals ace S. Martinez in the next game.
The Rubies behind F. Lamaruggines arm and bat defeated the Sapphires 10-2 Tuesday night. She pitched a complete game had 12k's and also went 3-4 with 4rbi's. The Rubies jumped out 3-0 in the first inning and never looked back. A. Martinez started the game with a single advanced to 2nd on a fielders choice and scored on V.Quinones single. They added 2 more on F.Lamaruggine's 2 out 2-run single. In the 3rd, the Rubies opened it up to 6-0 behind C.Quinones, K.Lanciones and F Lamaruggines hits. The Sapphires cut it to 6-1 in the top of the 4th but in the bottom of the inning the Rubies widened the gap to 9-1 when V.Nazzari & A.Martinez drew walks. C.Quinones sacrificed them to 2nd and 3rd with a perfect bunt. V.Quinones hit a sac-fly and F.Lamaruggine knocked in 2 more with her 3rd hit of the game. K.Lancione's sac-fly scored C.Quinones in the bottom of the 6th after a 15 minute rain delay to make it 10-1. The Sapphires J. Guerra scored 1 run in the top of the 7th and the final was 10-2 .
Saphirres stars were T.Rondon with 2 hits and D.Despiau who went 3-3. The 2nd place Rubies now move on to play the 4th place Crystals in a best of 3 series starting Thursday night.
The 4th place Crystals who finished the season 3-13-1 behind ace Shannon Martinez defeated the 1st place Diamonds 5-1 in the opening round of the 2009 playoffs. The game was scoreless going into the 5th as S. Martinez had a perfect game going. The Crystals left 9 runners in scoring position in the 1st 4 innings. Diamonds RF V.Davoli threw out a Crystal runner at the plate in the 2nd with a perfect strike from right field. The Crystals jumped out 1-0 in the top of the 5th.The Diamonds tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the 5th. The Crystals regained the lead 2-1 in the 6th and in the top of the 7th the Crystals broke open the game when pitcher S.Martinez hit a bases loaded triple. Martinez allowed the powerful Diamonds attack only 1 hit as they defeated the 1st place Diamonds 5-1.
The Crystals will play the winner of Thursdays Rubies-Sapphires game in a 2 out of 3 Championship series next week.
Pelham Bay Little League & Pelham Bay Belles organization will be again working with Warriors, the Bronx Highlanders and Maritime College to offer all of our Boys and Girls Ages 7 to 13 the opportunity to attend a One-Week Summer Sports Camp. The camp is being held right at our field (Naclerio Field) from June 29th - July 2nd from 8:30am - 3:30pm. July 3rd is being held at Maritime College. Boys and Girls ages 7-13 are able to attend and the cost is $45 per day or $180 for the whole week.

Saturday, “Picture Day” was bittersweet for the Blue Jays, who lost a heartbreaker to their conference rivals, the Cardinals, 7 to 6, in a five inning time shortened contest. V. Cucci drove in two runs, and pitched another complete game gem. Teammates V. Ianniello , B. Rodriguez , B. Mastropietro, J. Pelinkovic, J. Guarino and N. McPartland also drove in runs.
Sunday, the Blue Jays bounced back with and exciting 13 to 5 victory over the Eagles. J. Pelinkovic now (2-0) turned in a sterling pitching performance and made the key fielding play to start a triple-play to end the fourth inning. The win was a total team effort with runs being drive in by N. McPartland, V. Ianniello, V. Cucci, B. Rodriguez, J. Pelinkovic, M. McCormack, J. Von Kessel, and K. Parchen.

During our 2009 Parade Day, we will be holding a Formal Dedication Ceremony of newly named Spectator Park. The league has dedicated this area to Maryann Giardino, a long time Baseball Mom and now Baseball Grandmother down at the field. The sign has been erected and is currently up for all to see. We will soon be working on Spectator Park, which will include new shrubbery, benches and a brick walkway. This walkway will feature engraved bricks that we will offer to all people and businesses affiliated with Pelham Bay Little League and the Pelham Bay Belles.
After the winter months we will begin to work on Spectator Park so that we will be ready for the Dedication Ceremony in April.
